Student Life
Field Trips
Field trips are taken at various times during the school year to places of educational interest. Our students have gone to Brookfield Zoo, The Children’s Farm, and even special events at places like Maranatha Baptist Bible College.
Fine Arts Program
Music education begins in K4 and goes throughout 12th grade. Our elementary classes have one performance each semester and our secondary music program has two performances plus they are involved in the IACS Academic and Fine Arts Tournament. Music is taught as a core academic subject and seeks to meet MENC National standards for music education. Beginning in grade 5, students have the opportunity to participate in band. Piano and instrumental lessons are also offered.
Athletics

Students have the opportunity to participate in sports year round. In the fall students may participate in boys soccer or girls volleyball. Winter sports include boys and girls basketball. In the spring there is an intramural 3v3 indoor soccer league.
State Competition
Each spring students have the opportunity to participate in the annual Illinois Association of Christian Schools Bible and Academic Fine Arts Tournament. The students compete in the areas of Academic Testing consisting of Bible knowledge, English, and spelling, Bible Quizzing, and music.
School Camp
South Side Baptist School students in grades seven through twelve begin each school year with a school camp at Camp Assurance in Georgetown, IL. The program is designed to let faculty and students get acquainted in a Christian camp setting and set the spiritual tone for the school year. Teachers help students develop and strengthen their personal standards using Bible principles.
Chapel
Each Friday our students meet in South Side Baptist Church’s Auditorium for chapel. Our speakers are different area pastors, our pastoral staff, and visiting evangelists. During this time our students received a special challenge that exhorts to godly living in an ungodly world.
Junior-Senior Banquet
Each year the junior-senior banquet is a special time to honor the seniors and is organized by the junior class.
Senior Trip
The annual senior trip to The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center is regarded as a significant educational experience. Therefore, all seniors are asked to participate in this activity. The cost for the Senior Trip is the responsibility of the senior. Seniors help pay for their trip through the senior snack shop program and other fund-raising opportunities.
